Falcon Bowls Club in Chelmsford wanted to tackle rising energy costs and take a more sustainable approach to running its clubhouse.
Like many community organisations, the club was feeling the pressure of higher electricity bills and wanted to explore whether solar could provide a practical long-term solution. After speaking to several providers, Falcon Bowls Club chose Lanman Solar to help guide the project from first enquiry through to installation.

ESTIMATED SAVINGS: 69% energy reduction
PAYBACK PERIOD: 3 years
With energy prices continuing to rise, Falcon Bowls Club began looking at solar power as a way to reduce overheads and improve the long-term efficiency of the site. The club wanted a solution that was commercially sensible, straightforward to install and capable of delivering meaningful savings over time.
After comparing options, Lanman Solar stood out for its clear advice, practical approach and support throughout the process. The club valued having honest guidance on what was needed, what was not, and how the installation would work in practice.
Once the decision had been made, the installation itself was straightforward and caused very little disruption to the club’s day-to-day operations. Despite some understandable concerns before work began, the process proved to be efficient, tidy and minimally invasive.
The club only needed to have the power turned off for a short period, and beyond that, the installation progressed with very little impact on normal activity. With the system now up and running, Falcon Bowls Club is generating renewable electricity on site and reducing its reliance on grid power.
The solar installation is only the first step. Falcon Bowls Club is continuing to work with Lanman Solar to explore additional ways to improve energy efficiency and increase the value of the system over time.
One option under consideration is battery storage, which would allow the club to store excess electricity generated during the day and use it later when demand is higher or solar production is lower. Other future improvements are also being discussed as part of the club’s wider sustainability plans.
Falcon Bowls Club’s experience shows how solar can be a practical and worthwhile investment for community organisations as well as commercial sites. By reducing energy costs and creating a more sustainable operation, the project has delivered both financial and environmental benefits.
For clubs, organisations and businesses considering solar power, this project is a strong example of what can be achieved with the right system design and the right installation partner.
"Lanman Solar has been an excellent company to deal with. Their expertise and support made what could have been a daunting process straightforward and stress-free."
